Krzysztof Zanussi, Lena Góra and Agnieszka Glińska – these are the members of Jury that will judge the
productions qualified to the International Short Film Competition.
International Short Film Competition is the novelty that got introduced along with FREEDOM Film Festival during the jubilee of the 15th edition of KAMERALNE LATO. Although the contests have been held since 2022, they managed to achieve the recognition in the film industry, as evidenced by this year’s judging panel.
Fifteen movies from all around the world which will be shown as a part of International Short Film Competition, will be evaluated by: one of the best known polish filmmakers in the world Krzysztof Zanussi (chairman), polish-american filmmaker and actress Lena Góra and one of the most awarded polish film editors Agnieszka Glińska.
We present the bios of the jury members below:
THE JURY OF THE INTERNATIONAL SHORT FILMS COMPETITION:
Krzysztof Zanussi (chairman)
Polish film and theatre director, screenwriter, film producer, essayist, philosopher. Commander of the Order of Polonia Restituta, since 1992 professor of film arts. One of the most recognized polish filmmakers in the world. Before he graduated from Polish National Film School in Lodz, he studied physics at University of Warsaw and philosophy at Jagiellonian University in Krakov.
Author of well-known and recognized movies like “Struktura kryształu” (1968), “Iluminacja” (1972), “Barwy ochronne” (1976), “Spirala” (1978), “Constans” (1980), “Rok spokojnego słońca” (1984), “Cwał” (1996) czy „Życie jako śmiertelna choroba przenoszona drogą płciową” (2000). Award winner of many festivals in Gdynia, Berlin, Venice and Cannes. His newest film “Liczba doskonała” had it’s premiere in the spring of 2023.
He has lectured at many film academies around the world. In 1980-2019 he was art director of the team and later on the director of TOR Film Production. In the years of 1990-1997 he was the president of Federation of European Screen Directors (FERA). A member of European Film Academy (since 2011 a member of the Academy’s board).
Author of the books, such as “O montażu w filmie amatorskim” (1968), “Rozmowy o filmie
amatorskim” (1978), and also six volumes of “Scenariusze Filmowe”.
Agnieszka Glińska
Film editor. She studied culture studies (specialization: film) at Łodz University and video editing at Polish National Film School in Lodz. A member of Polish Association of Editors (PSM), Polish Film Academy (PAF) and European Film Academy (EFA).
Winner of many individual awards. Three times awarded for the video editing at Polish Film Festival in Gdynia for the films ”Intruz” (2015), ”11 minut” (2015), and ”Sweat” (2020). She won seven nominations for the Orły, for the work on movies like ”Komunia” (2017), ”Jak najdalej stąd” (2021)and ”The Silent Twins” (2023). Two of them got awarded (”11 minut” and ”IO”). In 2022 she got Edda Award (Icelandic Film and Television Academy Award) for the video editing of ”Lamb”.
Films edited by her got awarded during many prestigious festivals in Poland and abroad. Jacek Borcuch’s ”Wszystko co kocham”, Zeresenay Berhane Mehari’s ”Difret” , Jerzy Skolimowski’s ”11minut” were Oscar candidates; Valdimar Jóhannsson’s ”Lamb” and Anna Zamecka’s ”Komunia”appeared on the shortlist, also Jerzy Skolimowski’s ”IO” got the nomination. The latter recived Jury’s Award in Cannes.
Lena Góra
Actress, filmmaker. Co-screenwriter of ,,Roving Woman” (2022), of which Wim Wenders is the executive producer. The film had its premiere on Tribeca Film Festival in June 2022. Lena played the main role next to the Oscar – nominated actor John Hawkes. Her debut script ,,Imago” (2023), awarded during Cannes festival (Kieślowski Scripteast Special Mention), will be shown at The Karlovy Vary International Film Festival in 2023. Lena played the lead role of a vocalist of alternative music scene Ela“Malwina” Góra. She acted also in the new horror film of Bernard Rose’s ,,Traveling Light” next to Stephen Dorff i Danny Huston.
Among the Polish audience she is know from super production of Canal+ ,,Król” directed by Jan Matuszyński, Sebastian Buttny’s ,,Święty” (2023) and Netflix’s original „Noc w przedszkolu” (2022).
The Polish National Filmmeetings KAMERALNE LATO and the accompanying FREEDOM Film Festival will take place form 2 to 8 July 2023.The International Short Film Competition jury’s verdict will be announced on the last day of the festival during the final ceremony.
